SABAH has achieved another milestone in its energy blueprint with the commencement of its power plant project by Kimanis Power.
The 100 MW plant, which cost approximately RM700 million, is among the key projects under Sabah’s Energy Roadmap and Master Plan 2040 (SE-RAMP 2040).
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the plant aims to provide Sabahans with a sustainable, fair, and affordable energy supply.
An adequate energy supply, he added, is essential for improving the quality of life and supporting Sabah’s socio-economic growth.
“This plant strengthens Sabah’s energy resources and supply, enhancing the well-being of the people,” Hajiji said at the groundbreaking ceremony for the plant today.
The event also marked Kimanis Power Sdn Bhd’s 15th anniversary.
In August, the Sabah Energy Council (MTS) approved 700MW to strengthen the state grid. Established to oversee the energy sector development, MTS plays a pivotal role in Sabah’s energy future.
Collaboration with Yayasan Sabah Group and Petronas Gas Berhad has been key in Kimanis Power’s growth as an energy player.
Petronas serves as a major partner to Sabah, driving economic growth and developing local talent.
In his address, Hajiji highlighted Petronas’ commitment to training Sabahans, developing skills and supporting education.
Local vendors have also benefited from Petronas through technology transfers and empowerment initiatives.
“This partnership uplifts Sabah’s economy, improving living standards while advancing the oil and gas sector,” Hajiji said.
He commended Kimanis Power for its 15 years of contributions to the state and looked forward to future collaborations with Petronas. — November 12, 2024
