THE Malaysian Armed Forces Council (MAT) has agreed to dismiss five Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM) cadets involved in three bullying cases at the university.

In a statement, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Khaled Nordin said the cadet officers would also have to give the government a total of RM189,250.80 for expenses incurred during their studies at UPNM.

This includes the cadet who had abused another trainee with a hot iron last month. Amirul Iskandar Ahmad Norhanizan was told to pay back the government RM44,600 as compensation.

Khalid said the decision was made during the Malaysian Armed Forces Council meeting yesterday.

Izzat Izuddin Arif, Hidayat Haqimi Yuslan, and Ku Muhammad Irfan Ku Zaimi will have to compensate the government RM48,452.75, RM19,481.70 and RM44,600.20 respectively.

The trio was involved in the physical abuse of a cadet officer by imposing “corrective punishment” and implementing isolation practices that caused the victim emotional distress.

The fifth cadet officer, Ammar Hafiy Habib, will have to compensate the government RM32,115.95 after physically abusing another cadet officer and inflicting injuries classified as “soft tissue injury over the lower back secondary to trauma”.

The case was discovered after the victim sought medical help.

The minister stressed that bullying will not be tolerated and that action will be taken. - November 27, 2024
