RESIDENTS of more longhouses in Sarawak are being evacuated as heavy rains continue to his various districts in the state.

Flood waters reportedly reached beyond eight feet, forcing residents from the Rumah Wat, Rumah Bok and other longhouses to evacuate.

In the Sungai Ulu Teru region in upper Tinjar, floods reached 2.5 metres, with more than a dozen longhouses and several schools inundated.

In Miri district, landslides and flash floods were reported today, while about 200 people at the foothills of Canada Hill saw their homes covered by mud.

This follows hillslope failures triggered by non-stop rain since last night.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department said an evacuation centre had been opened this morning.

Residents from Kampung Lereng Bukit are being evacuated after 23 houses were hit by mudflow already.

Floods were also reported in the Mukah and Tatau districts. - January 28, 2025
