A SEVEN-YEAR-OLD boy tragically drowned in an adult swimming pool at Tasik Residensi in Puchong on Sunday morning.

The incident occurred at around 11:30 am, when the child allegedly entered the pool unnoticed by his family.

According to authorities, the boy and his family were visiting relatives in the area and had been enjoying a day by the pool before the fatal incident took place.

Sepang District Police Chief ACP Norhizam Bahaman provided details in a statement, confirming that the victim, along with his family from Kampung Beserah in Kuantan, Pahang, had been swimming together at the pool.

It was reported that the boy wandered into the adult pool alone, which was not intended for children due to its deeper sections.

Authorities were alerted to the incident later in the day, with a police report being filed at 2:40 pm from Sultan Idris Shah Hospital in Serdang.

The boy was pronounced dead before he could be admitted to the hospital, with a post-mortem confirming that drowning was the cause of death.

Norhizam stated that the case is being investigated under Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001, which addresses child neglect and endangerment.

If convicted, the charge carries a maximum penalty of a RM50,000 fine, up to 10 years in prison, or both. The police have initiated a sudden death investigation to determine the full circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

This devastating incident has raised concerns about pool safety, particularly regarding the supervision of young children in environments designed for adult use.

The authorities are continuing their investigation into how the child was able to access the adult pool without detection, and the incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for vigilant monitoring of children in swimming areas. – February 11, 2025
