PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has assured that he will address the Parliament regarding the purported addendum allowing Datuk Seri Najib Razak to serve the rest of his jail term under home detention once the legal process is completed.
"Once the court case is concluded, I will respond, and I want to see whether the opposition leader will be present or not.
“I have given my commitment if permitted after the court case I have promised here (in the Dewan Rakyat) that I will explain,” he said during the Prime Minister’s Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat today.
Anwar declined to comment further at this point as the matter is currently before the courts.
He stressed that while he is aware of the facts, he will not "offend the royal position" on the issue.
"Where would I run from? Yes, you can shout, shout as much as you want, I know the facts. But if you want me to insult the position of the monarchy, I cannot do that, and in this matter, you can check — I have indeed contacted the rulers," he told opposition lawmakers.
Anwar was responding to Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin (Perikatan Nasional-Larut), who chided the government for remaining silent on the purported royal addendum despite the issue arising a year ago.
"The opposition does not care; they disregard sub judice because they believe they are above the law," he said.
Anwar had previously denied allegations that the government had concealed any document related to Najib's home detention. - February 13, 2025
