PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has pushed back against claims that parliamentary allocations were being restricted, saying such funds are meant to benefit residents and not serve as an exclusive entitlement of elected representatives.
Anwar said the government was not stopping allocations for constituencies, but would ensure the money reached those who needed it most, including schools, religious institutions, mosques and public facilities.
“Is the allocation for the MP or for the rakyat? The allocation must go to the rakyat,” he told reporters after Friday prayers at Masjid Ar-Rasyidin today.
The issue came under the spotlight after several government MPs claimed in May and June that they no longer had access to MyKhas, the system used for constituency allocation applications.
Among those who raised concerns were Subang MP Wong Chen, Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung and Ampang MP Rodziah Ismail.
Anwar, however, denied there was any move to block allocations, saying the government had chosen to channel funds directly to projects and institutions based on the needs of local communities.
“If there is RM2 million, the RM2 million goes to the people — schools, religious schools, mosques, repairing drains and other facilities. That is what we will do,” he said.
He said the approach was not new, adding that MPs who had previously been part of the government were aware of the policy.
“The policy has been there from before. When they were MPs, they knew about it. Now they oppose it, so we channel it directly to the people,” he said.
Anwar said the government would continue approving projects involving basic facilities regardless of political differences between the administration and MPs representing certain areas.
He added that repairs involving schools, madrasahs, mosques, toilets and drainage systems would continue to receive attention.
“The issue is who receives the benefit from the allocation, not whether it goes through the MP or directly to the people,” he said.
Meanwhile, Anwar said Nurul Izzah Anwar remains active in PKR despite stepping down as the party’s deputy president.
He said his daughter was currently involved in a special programme outside the party for a period of time, but would continue contributing to PKR.
“She has a special programme outside for a while. It is alright, we can accept it. But she is still active in the party,” he said.
Nurul Izzah announced her resignation from the post yesterday, saying the decision followed lengthy consideration as she sought to pursue a new path focused on service and contribution beyond holding a formal political position.
The former Permatang Pauh MP also stressed that the move did not change her commitment to PKR or her support for the party’s direction under Anwar’s leadership. – August 7, 2026
