THE incoming generation of Parti Pesaka Bumiputra Bersatu (PBB) leaders in Sarawak have been urged to maintain the party tradition of peaceful transition of power at the very top level.
It is crucial for this peace in PBB to be maintained as it is the backbone of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak state government, said PBB president Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg.
Speaking at the PBB triennial delegates conference in Kuching, he said a strong and united PBB will also ensure a solid GPS government.
"Many parties had broken apart after leadership struggles. In PBB we have not had such leadership struggles for almost 60 years.
"We must continue such peaceful leadership.
"The new generation who will take over from us as we age and make way must make sure peace and unity in PBB be continued," he said.
PBB saw its leadership maintaining status quo as the branches have adopted a no-contest resolution for the highest party positions.
The party will not see changes in the central leadership as it heads into the State Elections scheduled for middle next year but which could be called earlier.
The PBB Northern Sarawak zone adopted the resolution in its delegates conference last month.
The no-contest resolution was adopted also by the PBB Central Sarawak zone and PBB Southern Sarawak zone and by all the delegates in the central conference.
This means that Abang Johari, who is also Sarawak Premier will remain the PBB president, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan and Datuk Amar Dougglas Unggah the two deputy presidents, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusuf and Datuk Seri Stephen Rundi as the two senior vice presidents.
PBB said the party will focus on socio economic agendas.
The key resolution is that the party will focus on infrastructure development, education, business developments, rural transformation and other important agendas as it prepares for the state polls.
These are to uplift the standard of life of the grassroot PBB members throughout this state.
The other GPS component parties are Sarawak United Peoples Party, Parti Rakyat Sarawak and Progressive Democratic Party. – February 16, 2025
