A MAN was detained for allegedly assaulting a female student who was performing her prayers at Masjid Jamek Sungai Masin in Batang Kali early today.

The incident occurred while the girl was in the prostration position, at the back of the women's prayer row.

CCTV footage of the incident has scine gone viral on social media.

Based on the CCTV footage,a man wearing a white skullcap sneaked into the women's prayer area, grabbed the victim from behind, and took her out of the area.

At that time, The New Straits Times reported, the girl was praying alone in the back row, making the action unnoticed by other women who were also praying.

In a separate recording, the man is seen trying to grope the victim but fled after the victim resisted.

Hulu Selangor district police chief Ahmad Faizal Tahrim, when contacted by NST, said police will issue a statement on the incident. - February 21, 2025
