A BLIND man died after being run over by a Light Rail Transit (LRT) train at Titiwangsa station this morning, after he is believed to have accidentally fallen on the tracks.
Fire and Rescue Operation Commander PBK I KUP Fadil Hesam Mohd said the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call at 8:38 am about a body found on the railway tracks.
Personnel from the Sentul Fire Station and Titiwangsa Fire Assistance Unit were immediately dispatched to the scene.
Initial assessments by Health Ministry staff confirmed that the victim had died at the scene.
"Preliminary findings suggest that he may have fallen onto the tracks before being struck by an oncoming train. The incident is believed to have occurred due to a loss of balance, with the train operator unaware of the fall," he said in a statement.
Authorities are carefully conducting the transfer of the body, ensuring the safety and smooth operation of the investigation in accordance with all standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Meanwhile, Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd has taken safety precautions by deactivating the power supply at the affected station to allow rescue teams, police, and medical personnel to operate.
As a result of the incident, services at PWTC, Titiwangsa, Sentul, and Sentul Timur stations were temporarily disrupted. Alternative rail services, including free shuttle bus services, have been activated to support the ongoing rescue operations.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident, including a review of the railway operation records at the time of the event.
Further updates will be provided through Rapid KL's social media channels and station announcements.
Meanwhile, Berrnama reported that Sentul District Police Chief ACP Ahmad Sukarno Mohd Zahari said the police are in the process of identifying the victim, and the case has been classified as an unexpected death.
"The victim's body has been taken to Hospital Kuala Lumpur, and the post-mortem is expected to begin today," he said.
He also stated that initial investigations found no criminal elements in the incident, as the victim slipped and, at the same time, a train passed over the track where he fell. – February, 22, 2025
