SARAWAK Parti Keadilan Rakyat has embarked on a new membership recruitment campaign throughout the state ahead of the state elections due by middle of next year.

State PKR chairman Roland Engan said the party wants to bring in more young blood.

"We have asked all our 31 branch leaders in each of the 31 existing Sarawak parliamentary constituencies to oversee these membership recruitment exercise.

"They are to reach out to the grassroot rakyat not just in urban areas but also in semi urban and rural locations.

"They have been told to go extensive in reaching out to the communities," he told reporters here.

Sarawak PKR has also reinstated Senator Abun Sui Anyit as the state PKR information chief.

Abun is also Sarawak Pakatan Harapan information chief.

Yesterday, the Sarawak Pakatan Harapan component parties kick-started joint preparations to face the coming Sarawak state elections.

Sarawak Pakatan Harapan are meanwhile discussing seat distributions and assessing the grassroot situation in the 82 state constituencies.

"We Sarawak PH are contesting in the coming state elections.

"The coalition component parties are united in their desire to make a greater impact in the coming state elections to give the rakyat of Sarawak bigger voice and to fight for their rights and welfare.

"Recently, certain quarters in the GPS ruling state government had publicly told Sarawak PH to stay out of the coming state elections.

"That is very arrogant of GPS that controls 80 of the 82 state seats.

"Absolute power corrupts absolutely," Sarawak PH said in a statement issued after the meeting.

The seat distribution talks among Sarawak PH parties will progress in the coming months.

The meeting was chaired by Sarawak PH chairman Chong Chien Jen who is also Sarawak DAP chairman. - February 25, 2025
