UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has expressed his support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s leadership, aligning with former Malaysian envoy to the United States, Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz, who hopes Anwar will lead the country beyond the upcoming 16th General Election (GE16).

Speaking to the media after the launch of Felcra Bhd’s closed-house system broiler farming project in Tanjung Seratus, in Rompin, Zahid, who is also the deputy prime minister, confirmed that he shared Nazri's sentiment about the importance of Anwar securing a second term as prime minister.

"That is his (Nazri's) aspiration and also our hope in the Madani government," New Straits Times cited Zahid saying when asked by reporters about his views on the matter.

Zahid was accompanied by Pahang Menteri Besar and UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, and Felcra chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub at the event.

In an earlier interview, Nazri said the coalition led by Anwar, which includes Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional, remains the best option for Malaysia’s future. He stated that his primary concern was ensuring Anwar's victory in the upcoming general election, thus securing a second term as prime minister.

Zahid’s comments reflect the unity within the government, underscoring the shared commitment to Anwar’s leadership moving forward. – February 26, 2025
