SEVEN deaths were recorded at unregistered childcare centres between 2021 and 2024, said Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.

In a written parliamentary reply, she told Rodiyah Sapiee (GPS-Batang Sadong) that three deaths occurred between 2021 and 2023, while four were reported in 2024.

Rodiyah had asked about the number of child deaths in childcare centres since 2021 and the ministry's actions regarding the death of a four-month-old infant at an unlicensed childcare centre on Jan 3.

Nancy said the Social Welfare Department had since taken action and the centre has been closed.

She also urged parents to ensure their children are sent only to registered childcare centres. – February 27, 2025
