THE Malaysia Hindu Sangam (MHS) has expressed its appreciation to Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil for his promptness in ordering a thorough investigation into the incident involving presenters from an Astro radio station.
The presenters were earlier seen mocking a religious ceremony and subsequently sharing the video on social media this morning.
In a statement today, MHS also called on the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to take immediate action against those responsible.
The association stressed the need for the radio station to take full responsibility and address the issue as soon as possible.
The MHS strongly condemned the video, highlighting that mockery of any religious practice is unacceptable in Malaysia’s diverse, multi-religious, and multicultural society.
“The sanctity of religious expressions must be respected by all, and no community should have to endure such blatant insensitivity. Although the personnel involved from the station have issued an apology, we urge the radio station to take firm action, as they have set a negative example,” the statement read.
MHS further emphasised that those responsible should be held accountable under the law to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The association stressed the importance of maintaining national unity and mutual respect among all Malaysians, regardless of their religious backgrounds.

Earlier, Fahmi had ordered MCMC to launch a detailed investigation, which includes summoning representatives from Astro and the management of the radio station to provide a full explanation.
This would ensure that appropriate action can be taken based on existing regulations and laws.
Following the incident, the three presenters involved—Nabil Ahmad, Azad Jasmin, and Radin Amir Affendi—issued public apologies, acknowledging that their actions had deeply offended the sensitivities of the Malaysian public.
Astro Audio indicated that the trio has been temporarily removed from the airwaves until further notice, pending the results of an internal investigation by the station.
In an official statement, Astro Audio expressed regret over the incident and assured that it was taking the matter seriously.
The company confirmed that the controversial video, which was shared on the ERA social media platform, would be addressed promptly. – March 4, 2025
