THE Minister of National Unity, Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang has called for the need for more stringent enforcement measures against individuals who raise sensitive issues related to race, religion, and royalty, commonly known as the 3R issues.
He stressed that relevant agencies must take more decisive action to safeguard the nation's unity and harmony.
In a statement, Aaron clarified that the responsibility for taking legal action against those who incite issues related to the 3Rs falls under the jurisdiction of several key bodies, including the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN), the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), the Ministry of Communications, and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
"The ministries and agencies mentioned above are responsible for taking legal action against individuals who provoke sensitive 3R issues," Aaron said in a post on X today.
Addressing the role of the Ministry of National Unity in tackling these issues, Aaron explained that the ministry focuses on reformatory and intervention approaches, including monitoring efforts through the eSepakat system.
This mechanism serves as a platform for managing unity-related issues, enabling them to be referred to the relevant agencies for action.
Furthermore, the ministry offers mediation services through its network of 571 community mediators, who play a crucial role in de-escalating conflicts.
These mediators provide alternative dispute resolution solutions through the Community Mediation Centres, allowing citizens to resolve issues without resorting to legal processes.
Aaron also highlighted the efforts of the Unity Issue Management Committee, which consists of 12 ministries and agencies.
This committee facilitates immediate follow-up actions, while the Unity Analytics Dashboard allows the ministry to identify "hotspots" that require targeted interventions.
Additionally, the ministry implements various programmes and campaigns aimed at fostering national unity and strengthening social cohesion.
"Through these initiatives, we are committed to ensuring that national unity is upheld and that the people of Malaysia remain united despite any challenges posed by divisive issues," he added.
Aaron's comments underline the government's ongoing efforts to address sensitive issues responsibly and to prevent the spread of racial, religious, or royal provocations that threaten Malaysia's multicultural fabric. – March 7, 2025
