THE driver of the Honda Jazz who ran a red light on Jalan Persiaran Senawang 1 in Seremban, resulting in the deaths of two teenagers last Thursday did not have a valid driving license.

Seremban District Police Chief, Mohamad Hatta Che Din, told Sinar Harian that the car driver involved is 18 years old and not 15 years old as alleged on social media.

"We are still conducting further investigations into this case and hope the public will not speculate as it could disrupt the investigation process.

"For the time being, the statement from the car driver involved has not yet been taken because the victim is still being treated in hospital," he said.

According to reports, a 15-year-old motorcyclist and a 16-year-old pillion rider of a Modenas Kriss motorcycle died at the scene.

The accident occurred when the 18-year-old driver and a 17-year-old male passenger, were travelling from Senawang towards Paroi.

The driver allegedly failed to stop at the red traffic light and collided with two motorcycles on the left.

Due to the impact, the Modenas Kriss rider and passenger sustained severe head injuries and were confirmed dead at the scene.

"Meanwhile, the Honda Jazz driver and passenger, along with the rider and pillion passenger of a Honda Vario motorcycle, suffered serious injuries and were taken to Hospital Seremban for further treatment.

"The bodies of the deceased were sent to the Forensic Department of Hospital Rembau for a post-mortem," said Hatta.

Hatta said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless or dangerous driving.

The offence carries a maximum penalty of 15 years' jail and a RM100,000 fine. – March 8, 2025
