NATIONAL Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang has urged all individuals to avoid religious discussions, including the exchange between Datuk Seri M. Saravanan and preacher Zamri Vinoth.
He cautioned that such dialogues could incite tension and harm interfaith relationships in the nation.
"Conversations regarding religion should discontinue if they merely serve to highlight differences and disregard unity efforts.
“Religious discourse must respect the diversity of our society," he said.
Aaron emphasised that while individuals may possess varying beliefs, it is essential to concentrate on shared values that can unite Malaysians.
"Through the Madani Harmoni Initiative, the National Unity Ministry has been facilitating dialogues under the theme 'Understand, Respect, and Accept' to examine religious practices and values that strengthen relationships among different faiths," he noted.
He encouraged everyone to participate in the Dialog Harmoni platform operated by the ministry to promote understanding and appreciate the diversity of our society through common values.
"I also remind all parties to stive for national stability and harmony among various races and religions. Every elected representative, politicians, religious leaders, communities, and individual contribute to fostering unity and ensuring the nation's welfare," he added.
Previously, it was reported that Saravanan, the MIC deputy president and Tapah MP, had planned to debate preacher Zamri on March 23, following remarks he made regarding kavadi bearers. – March 10, 2025
