Guan Eng emerges 26 of 30 in DAP CEC race, Gobind tops list
Kok and Hui Ying failed to secure a spot in the CEC - March 16, 2025

by Ian McIntyre

DAP strongman Lim Guan Eng only emerged number 26 among 30 candidates selected to the party central executive committee (CEC).

It is among the lowest rung, the former secretary-general had placed in.

Lim secured 1,719 votes to secure his spot in the CEC.

This has paved the way for him to garner key positions within the party, including defending the National Chairman post following the party's 18th National Congress today.

The CEC results were announced by the party's national congress returning officer, Desmond Tan, at the Ideal Convention Centre (IDCC) after three hours of vote-counting.

Gobind Singh Deo topped the list, followed by Chong Chieng Jen, Teo Nie Ching, Anthony Loke Siew Fook and Yeoh Bee Yin.

DAP vice-chairman Teresa Kok and Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying failed to secure a spot in the CEC.

Jelutong MP RSN Rayer, Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng, and incumbents Vincent Wu and Thomas Su also failed to make the cut.

Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh, Deputy Speaker Alice Lau and Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh also secured their spots in the party's leadership lineup.

Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow remains in the top leadership.

Newcomers include Loke’s political secretary Arul Kumar Jambunathan, Liow Cai Tung, Gobind’s brother Ramkarpal Singh, Vivian Wong, and Puchong MP Yeo Bee Yin.

About 3,342 delegates, or 79.5 percent of all delegates, cast 3,326 votes for the CEC, while about 296 of the votes were spoiled, while one ballot was not returned. - March 16, 2025
