Flood victims across three states rise to 8,882
Johor continues to be the hardest-hit state, with a total of 7,324 victims from 2,221 families in five districts. – March 21, 2025

THE number of flood victims in Johor, Sabah, and Sarawak has increased to 8,882 individuals as of 5am on Friday, according to the latest update from the Disaster Management Information of the Department of Social Welfare.

This surge in numbers has affected 2,657 families, who are currently taking shelter in 111 temporary evacuation centres (PPS) set up across the affected regions.

Johor has been the hardest-hit state, with a total of 7,324 victims from 2,221 families in five districts.

The worst-hit area within Johor is Johor Bahru, which has recorded the highest number of evacuees, with many being sheltered in 27 evacuation centres.

The other affected districts in Johor include Kota Tinggi with 1,762 victims, Kluang with 1,232, Kulai with 1,152, and Pontian, which is home to 734 victims.

In Sabah, 1,193 flood victims from 369 families are currently taking refuge in nine evacuation centres across five districts. The worst-hit area in Sabah is Kota Marudu, where 912 individuals have been displaced, followed by Sandakan with 132 victims, Beluran with 92, Paitan with 46, and Matunggong with 11 victims.

Meanwhile, in Sarawak, 69 victims from 20 families have sought shelter in two temporary evacuation centres in the Kapit district.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as the number of evacuees may rise further, with heavy rainfall still affecting the region. – March 21, 2025
