IN a shocking turn of events, two 12-year-old girls were among 38 motorcyclists detained for allegedly taking part in illegal street racing around Jalan Ampang and Jalan Sultan Ismail early yesterday morning.

Road Transport Department (JPJ) Director-General Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli, said today the operation, which was launched following public complaints about illegal street racing in the area, resulted in the issuance of 196 compound notices and the seizure of 19 motorcycles.

The most common offense recorded during the operation was riding without a driving license.

“This is quite alarming as the two young girls were riding motorcycles that had been modified with altered exhaust systems and brakes, among other violations,” said Datuk Aedy Fadly during a press conference after attending the JPJ Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur’s Ihya Ramadan event.

The event was also attended by Deputy Minister of Transport, Datuk Hasbi Habibollah, Senior Enforcement Director of JPJ, Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan, and JPJ Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur Director, Hamidi Adam.

The majority of those detained were found to be minors, with most under the age of 18 and still attending school. As part of the follow-up action, the authorities have called in the parents of the underage suspects for further investigation.

“We will assess what further steps can be taken, potentially involving other enforcement agencies, as these parents allowed their children to participate in illegal street racing,” Datuk Aedy Fadly added. – March 21, 2025
