FORMER Sabah Infrastructure Minister Datuk Peter Anthony has filed for a review of the Court of Appeal's decision, which upheld his three-year prison sentence and RM50,000 fine for forging documents related to a maintenance and services contract at the University of Malaysia Sabah (UMS) 11 years ago.
In his motion, Peter has requested the court to reconsider and overturn the conviction and sentence handed down by the Court of Appeal on 4 March under Section 468 of the Penal Code.
Additionally, Peter has sought the cancellation of the arrest warrant issued on 4 March for his incarceration at Kajang Prison, as well as any subsequent orders to ensure justice in the case.
Peter's lawyer, Datuk Nicholas Kow Eng Chuan, told Bernama that the case management has been scheduled for 26 March before the Deputy Registrar of the Court of Appeal.
On 4 March, the Court of Appeal ordered Peter to serve a three-year prison sentence after rejecting his final appeal against the conviction and sentence handed down by the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court in May 2022.
Previously, Peter had filed an appeal on 19 April 2023 to overturn the conviction and sentence, but this was also unsuccessful when the Kuala Lumpur High Court upheld the Sessions Court's decision on 18 April 2023. He has since paid the imposed RM50,000 fine.
The charge stemmed from Peter, as Managing Director of Asli Jati Sdn Bhd, allegedly forging a letter from the Deputy Vice-Chancellor's office at UMS dated 9 June 2014, containing false statements with the intent to deceive.
The offence is said to have occurred at the office of the Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister, Perdana Putra Building, Putrajaya, between 13 June and 21 August 2014.
If convicted, the offence under Section 468 of the Penal Code carries a maximum penalty of seven years' imprisonment and a fine. - March 22, 2025
