AN effective weather forecasting system and prompt responses to meteorological changes are essential in reducing disaster risks, according to Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Ahmad Zahid expressed his sincere appreciation for the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) for its steadfast dedication to providing accurate and timely weather information, ensuring the safety of the public.

“You are the nation’s ‘weather frontliners’, playing a crucial role in making sure that the country is adequately prepared for any eventuality,” Bernam quoted him saying.

He added, “May these efforts continue to be recognised and further serve to educate the public on the significant role weather updates play in everyday life. Keep up the excellent work, weather warriors.”

In his capacity as Chairman of the National Disaster Management Committee, Ahmad Zahid also marked World Meteorological Day 2025, which is observed today.

“This year’s theme, 'Closing the early warning gap together', is a poignant reminder that timely early warnings can indeed save lives,” he added. - March 23, 2025
