KOTA KINABALU: Non-functioning automated teller machines (ATMs) at several major bank branches in Donggongon town have frustrated several members of the public here.

Checks made by The Vibes on several banks outlets, which included Maybank and Alliance banks, saw the glass doors leading to ATM banking halls barred shut from the inside, while the doors of the ATM banking hall at the Public Bank branch remained open, but the ATMs and cash deposit machines were not functioning.

There was no queue at the Public Bank branch as customers who came in quickly left empty-handed and informed others of the problem.

This has led to the public asking what exactly is going on with the banks’ ATM machines in Donggongon.

“All ATMs at Alliance, Public Bank, BSN, Maybank, and Bank Pertanian are offline.

“I pity the villagers from (remote) areas in Penampang, such as Kg Moyog, Nuayan, and Terian for example, who could not withdraw their cash, since it’s already the Christmas season.

“They took a day to come here to withdraw their money, only to end up going back empty-handed," said one member of the public.

A dismayed senior citizen who wanted to be known only as Ling said that he came to try his luck at withdrawing cash from Public Bank’s Donggongon branch today, after failing to do so yesterday.

“I had hoped the machines would be fixed already, but the ATMs are facing the same problem. All the machines inside are offline,” he said.

Another member of the public named Brian said when met that he had wanted to withdraw some money for Christmas shopping with his family. but all the ATMs were not working.

“I'm disappointed. A waste of my time and effort coming here only to leave empty-handed. Now I’m forced to try my luck at other Public Bank branches closer to Kota Kinabalu,” said Brian. – The Vibes, December 20, 2020
