PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stressed that seeking peaceful and civilised solutions should not be seen as a sign of weakness, as some critics may suggest, but rather as a core value of Madani.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Madani Mosque in Kuala Lumpur today, he reaffirmed the importance of dialogue and harmony in resolving issues, highlighting that these values embody the essence of a just and ethical society.

"That is why we choose to maintain harmony and engage in good negotiations," Anwar said in his address, adding, "Finding a good solution is not a sign of weakness, as some groups may argue, but rather a hallmark of a civilised approach."

The Prime Minister went on to describe the Madani Mosque as a symbol of intellectual development grounded in Islamic faith, values, ethics, and love that transcends communities.

He also emphasised that the resolution reached concerning the mosque's location on Jalan Munshi Abdullah, where the private land also housed the Dewi Sri Pathrakaliamman Temple, was not meant to demonstrate superiority or arrogance.

Instead, Anwar viewed the agreement as a demonstration of wisdom, strength, and the dignity of Islam.

"This resolution, particularly regarding the location of the Madani Mosque, is for me a 'falah' (success)—when we can emerge as a positive example," he said.

"As Muslims, we should embody qualities of kindness, compassion, and justice, not examples of harshness or hatred."

The Prime Minister added, in a country like Malaysia, political disagreements and differing opinions often lead to a tendency to find problems by belittling, condemning, or embarrassing others.

However, he stressed that Islam teaches a different approach. "Islam does not teach us to seek out problems by humiliating others," he said.

This approach, he explained, would encourage others, especially from different ethnic and religious backgrounds, to see the message of Islam not as a source of division but as one of peaceful coexistence and unity.

"Preaching with wisdom calls for patience, intelligence, and mercy, so that others are not made to feel it is a confrontation," the Prime Minister added.

The Madani Mosque, which is set to serve the growing community in the area, is seen as a significant step towards fostering inclusivity and promoting mutual respect among Malaysia's diverse population. – March 27, 2025
