TRAFFIC congestion has begun to build up on several key highways as thousands of Malaysians make their way home for Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
As of 4.30 pm, significant delays have been reported on major routes, with slow-moving traffic observed in both directions of the North-South Expressway (PLUS) for routes E1 and E2, as well as the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Expressway (KLK).
A spokesperson from the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) revealed that traffic along the PLUS E1 heading north is particularly heavy, with delays from Sungkai to Bidor, Tapah to Gopeng, Sungai Perak to Taiping, Perai to Bukit Mertajam, and Bukit Tagar to Tanjung Malim.
“Traffic on the PLUS E2 heading south is also becoming more congested, particularly from Nilai to the Seremban R&R, Seremban to Senawang, and Simpang Ampat to Ayer Keroh,” the spokesperson said.
On the East Coast Expressway 2, there have been reports of slow-moving traffic in Kuala Terengganu, while the KLK Expressway is also seeing congestion from the Gombak Toll Plaza to Bentong.
Further complicating matters, the official PLUS Traffic X account reported an accident on the PLUS E2 at KM 273.1 northbound, between Bandar Ainsdale and Bandar Baru Nilai, which has blocked the right lane and added to the ongoing delays.
