THE Selangor government has activated a Temporary Evacuation Centre (PPS) at Masjid Putra Heights to provide shelter for residents affected by the gas pipeline fire that broke out earlier today at Jalan Putra Harmoni, Putra Heights, Subang Jaya.

Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, announced via a post on X (formerly Twitter) that the PPS had been set up to accommodate those displaced by the fire.

“The fire department is currently controlling the blaze and has initiated the evacuation of residents in the affected areas. The District Disaster Management Unit has activated the PPS at Masjid Putra Heights to temporarily house those impacted until the situation stabilises,” Bernama quoted him saying.

Meanwhile, Selangor's State Executive Councillor for Disaster Management, Mohd Najwan Halimi, confirmed that several homes in Kampung Kuala Sungai Baru were also damaged in the incident, though the exact number of houses affected has yet to be confirmed.

“There are also victims trapped inside some of these homes, and rescue operations are underway. Meanwhile, those who have been rescued are being taken to the PPS, and some victims who have suffered burns are awaiting ambulance services for medical treatment.

“The mosque is assisting the victims for now,” he said in a statement.

Earlier, it was reported that the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) had been evacuating local residents from areas surrounding the gas pipeline fire at Jalan Putra Harmoni, Putra Heights.

JBPM Selangor Assistant Director of Operations Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar, had said the fire was caused by a gas pipeline leak, with an estimated 500 metres of the pipeline on fire. The incident occurred near a public housing area.

Air Quality Monitoring to Begin

The Department of Environment (JAS) will be monitoring air quality in the area following the gas pipeline fire.

JAS Director-General Datuk Wan Abdul Latiff Wan Jaffar confirmed that a team from JAS Selangor had been dispatched to the scene for an initial assessment.

"Members of the public are advised to avoid the vicinity of the fire," he said when contacted by Bernama.

He added that further developments would be communicated in a press release once all relevant information had been gathered.

Power Outages across Subang Jaya and Putra Heights

Meanwhile, power supply disruptions have been reported in the Putra Heights and Subang Jaya areas as a result of a massive fire earlier at a petrol station in Taman Puchong Perdana.

Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) issued a statement confirming that its technical teams had been deployed to assess the situation.

“Restoration work on the electricity supply will commence once the situation is deemed safe by the authorities,” the statement said.

The local community is being urged to stay informed and adhere to safety instructions as the situation unfolds. – April 1, 2025
