PN demands independent, transparent investigation into Putra Heights gas pipeline blaze
State opposition leader strongly believes that Petronas should compensate all victims for the injuries and losses sustained – April, 2, 2025

SELANGOR Perikatan Nasional (PN) has called for a thorough, independent, and transparent investigation into the devastating gas pipeline fire in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, which caused significant damage and severe disruption to the lives of the victims.

In a statement today, its chairman Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali expressed deep sorrow over the incident, which injured 112 individuals and caused immense trauma to many more, with powerful explosions and tremors affecting several residential areas in the vicinity.

“We urge the government to deliver swift and effective support to help affected residents return to stability as quickly as possible,” the statement added.

In light of the severity of the incident, PN is demanding that the Selangor Government take full responsibility and initiate an independent, detailed, and transparent investigation into the cause of the fire.

The investigation’s findings must address all concerns and be presented in a report with recommendations for regular safety checks along the gas pipeline routes to ensure the public’s safety, especially for residents living nearby.

As the leader of the Opposition, Azmin Ali also pressed the Chief Minister of Selangor to immediately call for a Special Session of the Selangor State Assembly to discuss the public interest of the gas pipeline fire, which has affected hundreds of citizens and caused emotional distress to many.

"The Special Session must be convened immediately, as stipulated under Rule 10(3) of the Selangor State Assembly’s Standing Orders,” he stated.

“Incidents like these are disasters, especially if they result from negligence or failures in ensuring safe, high-quality development for the people of Selangor. This tragedy calls into question the safety protocols, particularly in construction sites located along gas pipeline routes,” said Azmin Ali, who was also a former Selangor MB.

Azmin Ali strongly believes that Petronas should compensate all victims for the injuries and losses sustained. He proposed the establishment of a task force with an open line of communication to collect data on victims, including information on the losses and injuries.

The task force would provide advice to Petronas on how to offer fair and humane compensation to all affected individuals.

Armada Bersatu, along with the Secretary of PN Selangor, has already mobilised to assist with the coordination of relief efforts in the field. “We are on the ground assisting with coordination and providing aid to ease the burden of those affected by this tragedy,” said Azmin Ali.

“We extend our deepest sympathy and condolences to all those affected by this disaster, including the victims who have been injured and the families of those traumatised by the explosions,” said the Opposition leader.

The statement also conveyed hopes for the swift recovery of the injured, with a call for the Ministry of Health to ensure they receive the best possible treatment.

He also expressed gratitude to all emergency personnel involved in the recovery efforts, including the fire and rescue services, police, and health officers, who worked tirelessly during the festive period to save lives and extinguish the fire. – April, 2, 2025
