RESIDENTS of 115 homes impacted by the gas pipeline fire in Putra Heights last Tuesday are being allowed to return to their properties in phases, starting today.
Petaling district officer Huzunul Khaidil Mohammed (pic) announced that the first phase of the return process will involve 41 homeowners from Jalan 1/3A.
“These residents will be permitted to re-enter their homes from 9:30 am to undergo electrical wiring inspections.
“If the electrical wiring is found to be safe, electricity will be restored. If the inventory inspection confirms that the homes are in good condition, residents will be allowed to move back in,” Bernama quoted Huzunul saying today.
Once the first phase has been completed, the return of residents in the second and third phases will proceed according to schedule.
A Bernama report found that some residents began arriving as early as 8 am, in line with instructions from the authorities.
Subang Jaya police chief Wan Azlan Wan Mamat added that the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), in collaboration with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), would carry out a final inspection of the electrical wiring in all 115 affected homes today.
“JBPM’s inventory check has shown that most of the houses have minimal damage and are considered safe for occupancy,” he said.
Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) confirmed that the fire, which erupted at 8:10 am on Tuesday, occurred at the main Petronas Gas Bhd (PGB) pipeline.
The blaze resulted in a large crater measuring 9.8 metres deep and 21 by 24 metres in size. Firefighters took nearly eight hours to fully extinguish the fire. – April 3, 2025
