THE Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has opened four investigation papers against two individuals found to have uploaded extreme fake and offensive content with 3R elements (race, religion, and royalty) on Facebook and TikTok platforms.

The recording session with the duo was conducted at the MCMC headquarters in Cyberjaya to assist with further investigations.

One of the two individuals is an influencer and political activist who incited racial sentiments on social media involving the state anthem of Perak, the economic dominance of Malays through the breaking of the Petronas and Gas Malaysia Berhad monopoly, and the takeover of the Kuala Lumpur Tower.

The case is being investigated under Section 233 (1) (a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which provides for a fine of up to RM500,000 or a maximum prison sentence of up to two years, or both, if convicted.

A mobile phone and SIM card belonging to a suspect have been seized for forensic analysis.

As for another suspect, his mobile phone was already seized by the police for investigation for a different offence.

The public is advised to use social media platforms responsibly and judiciously, and not to carelessly upload any content related to 3Rs that could threaten the harmony of races and religions in this country. - April 8, 2025
