POLICE arrested a woman to assist investigations into the abuse of an 11-year-old girl using scissors in a house in Kangar last Monday.

Kangar Police Chief Yusharifuddin Mohd Yusop said the 33-year-old suspect was arrested near the Titi Kerbau overpass, Jalan Changlun-Kuala Perlis in Changlun, Kedah at around 1:30 am yesterday, reported Harian Metro.

According to him, police conducted an operation to track the suspect, believed to be the victim's biological mother, after a police report by the headmaster of a primary school in Jitra where the victim was studying.

"Last Tuesday, we received a police report from the headmaster that his student was allegedly abused by her biological mother."The headmaster noticed the victim arriving late to school, and later a doctor's examination found wounds on the victim's back, neck, legs, and hands due to bites and punctures, believed to have been caused by scissors.

"Following the police report, the victim was admitted at Hospital Tuanku Fauziah (HTF) for further treatment," he said in a statement as reported by Harian Metro.

According to him, his team then tracked the suspect before successfully locating her while she was visiting a friend's house for Eid.

Police seized a red iPhone 12, a SIM card, and a yellow pair of scissors believed to have been used during the incident.

The suspect has been remanded for four days from yesterday until April 11 to assist in the investigation under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.

"Police are still investigating the motive behind the abuse by the suspect," he said.

Members of the public with information are requested to come forward and contact the Kangar Police Headquarters (IPD) at 04-9082340 to assist with the investigation. – April 9, 2025
