A POLICE station chief with the rank of sergeant major who was accused of accepting a bribe of RM500 in return for not taking action against a foreign national has been suspended.
Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd. Yusoff Mamat said this was to enable a thorough investigation to be carried out by PDRM’s Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (JIPS).
He said the action was being carried out in conjunction with an investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
“This process is part of the investigation procedure carried out by our (police) side.
“Further action will only be decided after everything is completed,” he told reporters after officiating the police month assembly at the Kelantan Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK) today.
It was earlier reported that the MACC obtained a seven-day remand order against the police station chief to assist in the investigation into allegations of accepting a bribe of RM500 in return for not taking action against a foreign national.
The remand order under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code, against the 41-year-old man, was issued by Magistrate Amirul Asyraf Abdul Rashid.
The investigation is being carried out under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
The suspect is believed to have accepted a bribe of RM500 from a foreign national who is a United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees cardholder (UNHCR). – July 21, 2026
