PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim addressed allegations stressing the government’s unwavering commitment to equitable national development, including in states governed by the opposition.
Speaking at the MADANI 2025 Aidilfitri Celebration held at Pantai Batu Hitam in Beserah on Friday evening, Anwar emphasised that Terengganu had not been neglected, highlighting substantial investments channelled into key sectors such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, and flood mitigation.
These, he said, far exceeded the amount previously disbursed as “wang ehsan” or compassionate funds.
“But what do they (the opposition) do? They respond by insulting us... they claim we are cruel, that we don’t care, that we don’t provide compassionate funds.
“In fact, what we have given is many times more than wang ehsan — for education, for healthcare, for basic infrastructure, and for flood mitigation. These are the things we are doing,” he asserted.
Anwar also warned the public against falling for what he described as the opposition’s “false promises,” urging voters to assess the government’s performance based on facts rather than rhetoric or appearances.
“That is why the people must be aware... do not be deceived by appearances, do not be mesmerised by false promises. The rakyat must listen to the facts, evaluate with discernment, and help save our country,” he said.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed that the national economy is on solid footing and not on the brink of bankruptcy, as claimed by critics. He reiterated the government’s resolve to implement progressive development policies that benefit all states, regardless of political affiliation.
“The country’s economy is now strong and is not on the verge of bankruptcy,” he stated. “The government remains committed to outlining and executing developmental policies across the nation.”
The festive event, which drew a crowd of nearly 30,000 attendees, was also graced by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi; Pahang Chief Minister Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail; Minister of Communications Fahmi Fadzil; and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.
Anwar’s remarks appear aimed at quelling opposition narratives and reinforcing the image of a federal government that is attentive to the needs of all Malaysians, irrespective of political divides. - April 12, 2025
