King expresses gratitude for Tun Abdullah’s contributions to the nation – April 15, 2025

HIS Royal Heighness King and Queen of Malaysia, Sultan Ibrahim and Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, conveyed their heartfelt condolences to the family of the late statesman.

In a message posted on Sultan Ibrahim’s official Facebook page, Their Majesties extended their condolences to Tun Jeanne Abdullah and the entire family, expressing gratitude for Tun Abdullah’s contributions to the nation. They prayed that his soul be blessed and placed among the righteous.

Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah of Selangor and Tengku Permaisuri Hajah Norashikin also mourned the loss of Tun Abdullah.

Their Royal Highnesses expressed their sadness and extended condolences to the family, particularly to his widow, Tun Jeanne Abdullah.

Sultan Sharafuddin, who had known Tun Abdullah since the late 1960s, described him as a dedicated and calm statesman, remembered for his concern for the well-being of the people.

In recognition of his services, the late Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah had conferred upon Tun Abdullah the Order of Dato' Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah (D.S.S.A.) in 1992 and the Seri Paduka Mahkota Selangor (S.P.M.S.) in 2000.

Sultan Nazrin Shah of Perak, during the opening of the Third Session of the 15th Perak State Legislative Assembly, expressed profound sorrow over Tun Abdullah’s passing.

As a mark of respect, Sultan Nazrin decreed that the state flag of Perak be flown at half-mast. He conveyed condolences to Tun Jeanne Abdullah and the family, praying that Tun Abdullah’s soul be blessed with divine mercy and grace.

Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin of Terengganu, accompanied by his son, Raja Tengku Muhammad Mud'az, arrived at Masjid Negara in Kuala Lumpur at 11:39 a.m. today to pay his last respects to the late Tun Abdullah. They were received by the late statesman's son-in-law, Khairy Jamaluddin, at the mosque's main prayer hall.

Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin's presence underscores the deep respect and admiration held for Tun Abdullah, reflecting the nation's collective mourning and tribute to a leader who dedicated his life to public service and the welfare of the people.

The state funeral ceremony for Tun Abdullah commenced after the Zohor prayers, with dignitaries from both domestic and international spheres attending.

Former Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, accompanied by his wife Ho Ching and Singaporean officials, arrived to pay his respects to his late counterpart.

The two leaders shared overlapping tenures between 2004 and 2009 and collaborated to enhance bilateral relations, including the development of the Iskandar Malaysia project.

Prime Minister Lawrence Wong of Singapore also paid tribute, describing Tun Abdullah as a respected leader and a friend to Singapore.

Notable attendees included former Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, Senior Minister of Singapore and former Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Chief Minister of Selangor Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, Chief Ministers of Sabah and Melaka, Tun Musa Aman and Tun Dr. Mohd Ali Rustam, respectively, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, and former Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng.

The late Tun Abdullah's remains were transported from his residence in Bait Badawi, Persiaran Tuanku Jaafar, around 8:10 a.m. this morning for the customary washing and enshrouding rites at Masjid Negara. Following the funeral prayers, he was interred at the Heroes’ Mausoleum (Makam Pahlawan) within the mosque grounds.

Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi passed away at the age of 85 at the National Heart Institute on April 14. His funeral rites began with a lying-in-state at Masjid Negara, allowing the public to pay their respects.

Following Zohor prayers, a state funeral was held at the Heroes’ Mausoleum, attended by dignitaries and citizens alike. – April 15, 2025
