THE Subang Member of Parliament Wong Chen has announced his resignation, effective today at 5pm, saying he had submitted his resignation letter to the Speaker on August 5 to allow Parliament to prepare for the vacancy.

He said the letter was handed over five days ago to give parliamentary officers three working days to make the necessary preparations for the Subang parliamentary seat to be declared vacant.

The MP said a “gentleman’s agreement” had been reached with the Speaker not to disclose details of the resignation until 5pm today.

“We had a gentleman’s agreement not to release any details until August 10th at 5:00 PM,” he said.

He also announced that the honorific “Yang Berhormat” would be removed from all billboards, signages and correspondence bearing his name by next month.

Wong Chen is scheduled to hold a press conference on Wednesday at 11am, when he is expected to provide further details about his decision. - August 10, 2026
