BARISAN Nasional is counting on younger voters to strengthen its position in the Melaka election, with the party aware that their support could prove significant in determining the outcome.
Melaka BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ab Rauf Yusoh said young voters had an important say in the state’s future and urged them to choose a government capable of maintaining stability and continuing the progress made so far.
He said the younger generation would eventually take on leadership roles and should therefore make choices that would serve the state well in the years ahead.
“Young voters are being prepared to become future leaders. So, during this election, they must make the right choice.
“They must preserve what we have today so that they can build on the foundation laid by the people and choose a stable and wise government,” he told reporters after a campaign ceramah for the Tanjung Bidara state constituency in Kampung Balik Batu last night.
In his earlier speech, Ab Rauf said automatic voter registration had brought more people into the electoral roll, including those who had been eligible to vote for years but had never registered.
He said the 2022 general election had made clear that BN needed to reach beyond its traditional support base, particularly among Umno members, to win over younger voters.
On the Muafakat Melaka cooperation with Perikatan Nasional, Ab Rauf said the alliance could secure as many as 25 seats if its campaign machinery was properly mobilised.
“Of the 21 seats we are contesting, if we do the work properly, we can win up to 25 seats,” he said. - November 8, 2026
