A 25-YEAR-old man has been arrested by police in Kelantan after allegedly uploading a video on TikTok that contained derogatory remarks aimed at Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The arrest followed a police report lodged on Friday, after the individual—operating under the username “Matpakistan”—was found to have uploaded a video laced with insults and accusations directed at the Prime Minister.

According to Bachok District Police Chief, Superintendent Mohamad Ismail Jamaluddin, the suspect allegedly used demeaning nicknames such as "Ketimbang" and "Bang Non" when referring to Anwar.

“In the video, he also accused the Prime Minister of coming to Bachok last Saturday merely to ‘deceive’ the people who attended the MADANI Hari Raya Celebration at Pantai Irama,” said Mohamad Ismail in a statement issued on Tuesday.

The suspect is also believed to have attempted to rally others to boycott the Prime Minister's visit, through comments deemed provocative and capable of disturbing public order.

Following his arrest, police seized the man’s mobile phone, which is now being examined as part of investigations under Section 504 of the Penal Code, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955.

“We are currently awaiting a full report from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to determine further action,” Mohamad Ismail added.

He also revealed that a search of the suspect’s phone uncovered pornographic content, prompting additional legal proceedings.

The man was subsequently charged under Section 292 of the Penal Code for possession of obscene material and fined RM4,000 by the Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday after pleading guilty. – April 16, 2025
