SIN Chew Daily has suspended two senior editors following the publication of a front-page graphic on April 15 that featured the Jalur Gemilang without its crescent moon.

The suspended individuals are editor-in-chief Chan Aun Kuang and deputy chief sub-editor Tsai Shwu San.

In a statement, Sin Chew Daily announced that the decision to suspend the editors was made by the top management in line with accountability principles, pending an investigation into the incident.

"The suspension is effective immediately and will remain in place until the police investigations are completed," the statement read.

The graphic, which showed the Jalur Gemilang without the crescent moon alongside the flag of China, was released on the same day that Chinese President Xi Jinping began a three-day state visit.

This error prompted a strong response from His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, who deemed it unacceptable.

Several police reports have been filed against the newspaper.
