PERSISTENT heavy rain early this morning triggered flash floods in several areas across the Klang Valley, including parts of Sungai Buloh, Petaling Jaya and Subang Jaya.

Reports show a total of 86 houses were hit by a flash flood f in the areas around Kampung Baru Sungai Buloh and Kampung Paya Jaras Hilir earlier today.

Assistant Director of Operations for the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department, Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar, said the department began receiving emergency calls from as early as 5am.

“The first call came in from Jalan Industri 4, Kampung Baru Sungai Buloh at 5.01am. A unit from the Bukit Jelutong fire station was dispatched to the scene and found that six houses had been affected, with water levels reaching up to 0.6 metres,” he said.

Roughly 12 minutes later, firefighters received a second alert regarding a woman trapped in her vehicle along Jalan PJU 1A/46 in Petaling Jaya.

“A team from the Petaling Jaya station was sent and discovered that the flash flood had caused water to rise to about 1.5 metres. The woman, believed to be in her 50s, was successfully rescued from a Honda SUV,” he said, adding that water at the location has since receded completely.

At 5.44am, another report was received involving flash floods at the USJ 23 Badminton Centre in Subang Jaya. A Proton car was found stranded in water about 0.6 metres deep, although no one was inside the vehicle.

Meanwhile, at 6.31am, flooding was also reported in Jalan Teratai 4, Kampung Paya Jaras Hilir in Sungai Buloh, where water rose to 0.9 metres, affecting some 80 houses.

“No evacuations have been carried out at this time, and water levels are reportedly receding,” said Mukhlis. - April 23, 2025
