MP urges emergency supply centre for flood-prone Sungai Buloh
The aim is to ensure the distribution of essential supplies can be done more efficiently and quickly in times of need - April 23, 2023

SUNGAI Buloh MP Datuk Seri R. Ramanan is seeking the establishment of an emergency supply storage centre in his constituency to improve disaster response efforts in the event of future floods.

The Deputy Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives said he will submit a formal request to the Social Welfare Department (JKM), with the appeal to be channelled through the Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.

“The aim is to ensure the distribution of essential supplies can be done more efficiently and quickly in times of need,” Ramanan said in a Facebook post.

He added that he would also urge the Selangor state government to accelerate the implementation of a flood mitigation project in the Sungai Buloh parliamentary constituency to help prevent further incidents.

To this end, Ramanan proposed that a coordination meeting be held involving all relevant agencies to strategise and align flood response and prevention measures.

Flash floods triggered by continuous heavy rain have affected over 100 homes in areas including Kampung Paya Jaras Hilir, Kampung Kubu Gajah, and Taman Seri Alam. As of 1.20 pm today, nearly 200 families had been evacuated to four temporary shelters: PPS Dewan MBSA Seri Pagi (26 families), PPS Dewan Kenanga PDT Petaling (59 families), PPS Dewan Bunga Matahari (22 families), and PPS SK Merbau Sempak (100 families).

Ramanan, who visited the affected areas, extended his appreciation to the Sungai Buloh Parliamentary Service Centre, the local PKR division, Residents’ Representative Council, village leaders, and relevant government agencies for their swift response.

“We will continue to monitor the situation closely and take all necessary steps to protect the safety and welfare of the residents,” he said.

Other districts in Selangor, including Petaling Jaya and Subang Jaya, have also been affected by flash floods. - April 23, 2025
