MALAYSIA'S 2024 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination has marked the country's best performance since 2013, with 14,179 candidates achieving straight As and the national average grade improving significantly.

The National Average Grade (GPN) for SPM 2024 improved to 4.49 from 4.60 the previous year, according to Director-General of Education, Datuk Azman Adnan (pic).

Speaking at a press conference at the Ministry of Education (MoE) in Putrajaya, he confirmed that 14,179 candidates scored A+, A, or A- in all subjects—an increase from 11,713 candidates in 2023.

He further highlighted that the number of candidates who achieved at least a credit (Grade C) in all subjects rose to 86,040 in 2024, compared with 83,112 the previous year.

“A total of 136,791 candidates, or 36.1 per cent, passed all subjects in SPM 2024. This is an increase of 5,302 candidates or 0.9 per cent compared to 131,489 candidates (35.2 per cent) in 2023,” he said.

Datuk Azman also noted encouraging progress in bridging the urban-rural education gap.

“The achievement gap between urban and rural candidates also showed positive improvement, with only a 0.02 point difference compared to 2023,” he stated.

In total, 355,933 candidates, or 94 per cent, qualified for the SPM certificate this year—an increase from 349,297 candidates or 93.5 per cent in 2023.

The number of students sitting for the 2024 examination also rose, with 402,918 candidates compared to 373,924 in the previous year.

Candidates may collect their results from their respective schools starting at 10 am today. Alternatively, results can be accessed online at myresultspm.moe.gov.my or via SMS, available from 10 am today until 6 pm on 30 April. - April 24, 2025
