FIVE family members have pleaded not guilty in the Seremban Sessions Court to charges of kidnapping a 16-year-old girl and demanding a RM2 million ransom in an incident that took place earlier this month.
The accused – D Sasveena, 31, her husband T Boharaj, 32, her half-sister Farhin Muhamad Ariffin, 23, and two younger siblings, P K Koshenn Kumar, 21, and P K Siveeshinaa – denied the charges when they were read out before Judge Datin Surita Budin.
According to the charge, the group is accused of acting together to abduct the teenager with the intent of demanding a ransom of RM2 million. The alleged kidnapping took place at approximately 5.45pm on 10 April in front of a salon along Jalan S2 B10, Uptown Avenue, Seremban 2.
They were charged under Section 3(1) of the Kidnapping Act 1961, read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code. If convicted, they face a minimum of 30 years and up to 40 years in prison, as well as whipping.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Norazihah Asmuni objected to bail, citing the severity of the offence and the potential risk to the victim’s safety. “If bail is granted, there is a risk the accused could interfere with the victim, their family, and prosecution witnesses, or attempt to flee,” she told the court.
Defence counsel T Harpal Singh requested a short adjournment of two weeks to file a written mitigation submission in support of a bail application.
The court allowed the defence’s request and scheduled the next mention of the case for 14 May.
