No double standards in recent Jalur Gemilang gaffe, assures PM
"The use of AI must be accompanied by responsibility," said the prime minister, April 24, 2025

PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said there will be no double standards in the recent blunder involving the Jalur Gemilang and a thorough investigation would be conducted.

The Prime Minister's senior press secretary Tunku Nashrul Abaidah said the Prime Minister explained that the principles of justice and respect for the national flag must be upheld by all without exception and wants all parties to be more sensitive and cautious.

“The Prime Minister once again expressed his displeasure over the incidents involving the incorrect display of the Jalur Gemilang, the country's official flag which is a symbol of our sovereignty.

"This started with a newspaper last week and then a foreign company that participated in an exhibition in Kuala Lumpur and the latest today, involving the SPM examination results analysis report from the Ministry of Education (KPM) which also displayed an incomplete Malaysian flag," he said.

He said this at the PMO’s daily briefing which was broadcast live on Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's Facebook and PMO Malaysia's Facebook, today.

Tunku Nashrul said the Prime Minister stated that the error was believed to be caused using artificial intelligence (AI) technology to produce the image, whether intentionally or unintentionally.

“While the prime minister welcomes the use of AI across various sectors such as media, education and business, the technology must not replace human editorial judgement and quality control.

"The use of AI must be accompanied by responsibility.

"The prime minister welcomes innovation in the field of technology, including the growing use of artificial intelligence across various sectors, such as media, education, and business.

"However, any material involving national symbols or issues of public sensitivity must undergo thorough review," he said.

Anwar said while AI is a powerful tool, its misuse could have serious implications for the nation's harmony and unity. – April 24, 2025
