A MOTORCYCLIST has died after losing control of his bike and being struck by a car on the North-South Expressway at kilometre 1.6, heading towards the Johor Bharu city centre, this morning.
The accident, which occurred at 6:25 a.m., also involved another motorcycle and two cars that were hit by the same vehicle.
Deputy Johor Bahru South District Police Chief, Superintendent Azrul Hisham Mohd Shaffei, stated that initial investigations suggested the crash happened when the 23-year-old local man, riding a Honda Wave, lost control of his bike.
"The motorcycle, which was travelling from Kempas towards Johor Bahru, skidded and fell in the right lane," he said in a statement today.
"A 33-year-old local man riding a Yamaha XMax and the driver of a Toyota Vios, who were passing the area, stopped in the middle and right lanes to assist the victim."
"However, the Toyota Vios was hit by a Honda City driver coming from behind," he added.
According to Azrul Hisham, as the drivers of the Toyota Vios and Honda City were attempting to move their vehicles forward to allow the Yamaha XMax rider to help the victim, a Subaru Impreza driven by a Singaporean man in the right lane failed to avoid the scene and collided with the victim, who was lying on the road.
"The Subaru Impreza also hit the Yamaha XMax rider, as well as the Toyota Vios and Honda City," he said.
Azrul Hisham confirmed that the rider of the Honda Wave motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene, while the Yamaha XMax rider suffered a broken right leg and is receiving treatment at the Yellow Zone of Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA).
He added that all car drivers involved in the accident were not seriously injured, and an investigation is underway under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. - April 28, 2025
