ALL local authorities (PBT) must set up an Integrity Unit (UI) by August 31 to enhance administrative integrity.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) announced today that, to improve the reporting structure, all liaison officers (LO) in PBTs are now required to report directly to the UI at the State Secretary’s Office (SUK) instead of the local council president.

This change aims to boost reporting independence and governance transparency at the state level, as stated on MACC’s official Facebook page.

This decision was made during the National-Level Governance Committee (JTK) Meeting held yesterday at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC), chaired by Chief Secretary to the Government (KSN) Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.

The meeting also highlighted the importance of adhering to the MACC Report (LSPRM).

The KSN’s office will send reminders to ministries and state governments that have not yet implemented the recommendations from 2017 to 2021.

Additionally, the Public Service Department has been tasked with reviewing key sections of the Human Resource Management Services Circular (MyPPSM), particularly those concerning external sponsorships for smart partnership programs, to improve transparency and integrity.

The Ministry of Finance has been asked to consider adopting the “Do’s and Don’ts” Procurement Implementation Guidelines created by the National JTK Secretariat as an official reference and to circulate them for use across all agencies.

MACC also reminded all secretaries-general (KSU) to quickly report any known corruption cases within their ministries, as this is a crucial factor in the Demerit Performance Evaluation System (DEEP), aligning with Malaysia’s goal to strengthen its anti-corruption efforts. – May 1, 2025
