UMNO Deputy President Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan has called on all party members to renew their commitment, strengthen unity, and look to history as a guiding light to ensure the party’s ongoing relevance and meaningful struggle.

In a statement issued today in conjunction with the 79th anniversary of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), which was founded on 11 May, Mohamad extended heartfelt appreciation to members who have remained loyal and steadfast in their support.

“Your loyalty, sacrifice and trust remain the main sources of UMNO’s strength in remaining relevant amid present and future challenges,” he said.

“Let us continue to fortify unity and strive for a brighter future for Malaysia.”

Reflecting on nearly eight decades of the party’s journey, Mohamad said UMNO’s roots lie in the spirit of nationalism and deep love for the country, and its contributions to national development should not be underestimated.

“In 1957, the Federation of Malaya emerged in a world in turmoil. Across the globe, oppressed peoples were crying out for freedom, old empires crumbled one by one, and new global powers were thrusting humanity into the dawn of the Nuclear Age,” he said.

“Amid the sweeping changes of the latter half of the 20th century, UMNO guided the Federation of Malaya — and later Malaysia — through its first steps. Our country began to walk, and then to run in pursuit of development.”

Mohamad acknowledged the party’s past shortcomings but affirmed that UMNO continues to stand strong.

He expressed optimism about the party’s future, asserting that UMNO remains a relevant force in shaping a more prosperous Malaysia. - May 11, 2025
