Final honours paid to nine fallen FRU officers

THE remains of nine Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) members who perished in a tragic road accident at Kilometre 15, Jalan Sungai Manik near Sungai Lampam, Teluk Intan, arrived at FRU Unit 5, Sungai Senam in the early hours of Wednesday for final honours.

The bodies, transported in Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) vans, arrived at 3:15am and were received by colleagues and family members during a solemn tribute ceremony before being sent to their respective hometowns for burial.

More than 500 individuals, including PDRM personnel and grieving relatives, gathered at Surau Al-Mustaqim from as early as 9:00pm on Tuesday to await the arrival of the fallen.

Among those present to pay their respects were Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay and Perak Police Chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin. Also in attendance were Deputy Speaker of the Perak State Legislative Assembly Jenny Choy Tsi Jen, along with State Executive Councillors Datuk Mohd Zolkafly Harun, Datuk Salbiah Mohamed, and Khairudin Abu Hanifah.

The funeral prayer (solat jenazah) was led by Azrulzaimee Mohd Ali from the Religious and Counselling Division of the Integrity and Compliance Department at the Perak Police Headquarters.

The officers who lost their lives have been identified as Sergeant S. Perumal, 44; Sergeant Mohd Roslan Abd Rahim, 46; Corporal Mohd Pozli Jaudin, 41; Corporal Nurit a/l Pandak, 34; Corporal Amiruddin Zabri, 38; Corporal Mohamad Hilmi Mohd Azlan, 38; Corporal Muhamad Akmal Muhamad, 35; Lance Corporal Damarrulan Abdul Latif, 33; and Constable Akmal Wafi Annuar, 28.

The remains will be laid to rest in their respective hometowns, including Masjid Tuanku Abdul Rahman Putra in Kulim; the Islamic cemeteries at Kampung Kepayang and Meru Raya in Ipoh; as well as Kampung Sungai Itik in Gopeng.

Three others will be buried at Kampung Pantai Besar near Batu Kurau, Masjid Simpang in Taiping, and Kampung Parit Teluk Pial in Kuala Kurau.

The body of the late Sergeant Perumal will be taken to the Buntong Crematorium, while Corporal Nurit’s remains will be brought to his native village of Bukit Terang Orang Asli Settlement in Kampar. - May 14, 2025
