'Imaginary and baseless': Amirudin dismisses talk of vacating Sungai Tua Seat
Speculation was unfounded and oversimplified the legal and procedural requirements involved in vacating a seat - June 3, 2025

PARTI Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) vice president and Selangor Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, has dismissed claims that the Sungai Tua state seat will be vacated to make way for a by-election as “imaginary and baseless”.

Speaking at the e-bike handover ceremony held at the Selangor police headquarters today, Amirudin said that such speculation was unfounded and oversimplified the legal and procedural requirements involved in vacating a seat.

“It’s not that simple, it requires some research,” he remarked when asked about rumours suggesting a by-election was being planned to enable the newly aligned Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz to contest the seat under PKR.

The talk emerged shortly after Tengku Zafrul, Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, announced his resignation from UMNO last Friday and declared his intention to join PKR.

Amirudin, who successfully defended the Sungai Tua seat in the 2023 Selangor state election, reiterated that no such move to vacate the constituency was under consideration. - June 3, 2025
