THE administrative block of Sekolah Menengah Sains Alam Shah (ASAS) in Chera, Kuala lumpur, one of Malaysia’s premier boarding schools, was completely destroyed in a fire that broke out early this morning.

According to a spokesperson from the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department’s Operations Centre, an emergency call was received at 4.15am, prompting the deployment of fire crews to the scene.

A total of 44 personnel and eight fire engines from the Bandar Tun Razak, Jalan Hang Tuah, Cheras and Sentul fire stations responded to the incident.

“According to Senior Operations Commander Noorul Hayat Ahmad Nazri, upon arrival at 5.08am, firefighters found the entire first floor of the administrative block – comprising various rooms spanning approximately 2,740 square metres – fully engulfed in flames,” said the spokesperson.

“No casualties were reported. The fire was brought under control and fully extinguished by 6.18am. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the fire forensics unit,” the statement added.

Earlier, residents of nearby Bandar Sri Permaisuri in Cheras reported detecting a strong smell of smoke around dawn before spotting flames at the school premises.
