PRIME takes off to strengthen disaster communication response
PRIME ensures stable, flexible and reliable connectivity where terrestrial network coverage is compromised, particularly during disasters, MCMC says - June 16, 2025

MINISTER of Communications Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has officially launched the Mobile Integrated Radio and Internet Communication System (PRIME) – a strategic initiative by the ministry through the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) aimed at enhancing the country’s disaster preparedness in public spaces.

“PRIME represents a crucial step forward in ensuring that effective communication remains possible even in the most adverse conditions,” Fahmi said during the launch ceremony.

Deployed via a specially outfitted vehicle, PRIME is equipped with satellite, cellular, two-way radio, Wi-Fi and drone technology, allowing for seamless and uninterrupted communication, especially in remote areas or locations with limited coverage.

True to its slogan ‘Connectivity Without Boundaries’, (Ketersambungan Tanpa Batasan) the system is designed to serve as an interim communication support platform during emergency response, rescue operations, aid management and information dissemination.

MCMC stated that PRIME ensures stable, flexible and reliable connectivity where terrestrial network coverage is compromised, particularly during disasters.

It also enhances coordination between MCMC and key strategic agencies in emergency response, improving both the efficiency and resilience of national communications infrastructure.

Beyond disaster relief, PRIME will support community outreach initiatives, including the National Information Dissemination Centre (NADI), functioning as a mobile digital hub to showcase internet services and enable community activities at targeted locations.

“This initiative contributes to the development of a more inclusive and responsive communication ecosystem and serves as a catalyst for digital transformation in line with the Malaysia MADANI vision,” the Ministry said in a statement today.

Initially, three PRIME units will be developed in stages.

The first unit, launched today, will be based at MCMC’s headquarters to support operations in Peninsular Malaysia. Two additional units are expected to be operational by the end of 2025 and will be stationed at MCMC offices in Sabah and Sarawak.

Also present at the event were the Ministry’s Secretary-General Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa, and MCMC Executive Chairman Tan Sri Mohamad Salim Fateh Din. - June 16, 2025
