POLICE in Kuala Muda have arrested an 82-year-old man to assist in investigations into a viral incident involving a dog being dragged behind a motorcycle in Bandar Puteri Jaya.

Kuala Muda police chief, ACP Hanyan Ramlan, confirmed the arrest was made at the man’s residence in Bandar Puteri Jaya near Sungai Petani at approximately 8pm yesterday.

“Police seized a red Honda EX5 motorcycle, a set of keys with a road tax disc, and a white helmet,” he said in a statement issued today.

The man was brought to Kuala Muda Police Headquarters for further questioning. Preliminary checks revealed that he has no prior criminal record.

ACP Hanyan added: “The elderly man was found to be suffering from dementia and memory loss, but admitted to dragging his pet dog, although he could not recall why he did so.”

The incident occurred around 4.30pm on Sunday, when the man was seen dragging his pet dog, which had been tied to the rear of his motorcycle. Members of the public intervened after witnessing the disturbing scene. The dog sustained injuries as a result.

“Further investigations are ongoing under Section 428 of the Penal Code,” ACP Hanyan said, noting that the dog will be handed over to the Veterinary Department for continued care once medical treatment is complete. - June 17, 2025
