HUMAN Resources Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong recently reached out to assist an office worker - Mohd Nazim Hashim, who wanted to give his mother (Mak Embun) and sister a better place to live.
The 40-year-old had approached Sim to help repair his worn-out village home that he and his family were staying.
Last April, Mohd Nazim had suffered a major stroke while at work.
He then notified Sim's office of his desire to provide his mother and sister a better home as the doors, walls and roof had become rotten and there were leaks every time it rained.
His sister had even begged the hospital not to discharge her brother, as their home was in a deplorable condition.
Seeing their plight, Sim directed a contractor hired to renovate the home to speed up the repairs and he also settled some overdue payments for the family.
The repairs and renovations took a week, and the family was overjoyed to welcome Mohd Nazim home.

Unfortunately, Mohd Nazim’s condition worsened while he was at home and he passed away just three days of staying in their newly renovated home.
Sim visited Mak Embun and the sister later and conveyed his condolences, consoling them that Mohd Nazim fulfilled the family's dream of repairing the home.
He also surrendered a Social Security (Sosco) compensation payout of RM3,000 to the grieving family.
Sim directed his service centre officers to upgrade the bathroom so Mak Embun can take baths easier because she was old and frail.
"Mohd Nazim rest in peace. I will try to pay attention to the plight of your family," Sim posted on social media. - July 4, 2025.
